Get answers about the LED performance in MEC switches, including lifetime, brightness, and recommended usage. Learn how to optimize LED functionality for long-lasting, high-visibility applications.
› What is the LED lifetime in 4F/5G?
In general, 100,000 hours (approximately 10 years).
› What is the recommended current for LEDs? Are the same for green and red?
Please refer to the Technical Specifications on our website or the latest Product Catalogue for the recommended current for LEDs.
› The red LED seems to be substantially brighter than others. Is this generally the case?
Yes, in general, red, blue, and white LEDs are the brightest.
› Is it possible for green and blue LEDs to have the same brightness?
Yes, it’s possible. We can use a special green LED with higher light intensity than the standard one. Please contact MEC for more information.
› Will the luminous intensity decrease with time?
Yes, all LEDs experience a decrease in luminous intensity over time.
› What is the maximum current for a standard 4F/5G red LED, and how does it affect lifetime?
The maximum current is specified for ambient temperature up to 70°C. At this current, the LED’s lifetime is 100,000 hours. The maximum pulse can be up to 100mA with a duty cycle of D= tp/t ≈ 0.02. No specific “killing/destroying” current is defined.
› What happens to standard 4F/5G red LED specifications if the LED is pulsed?
The lifetime remains 100,000 hours, and pulsing the LED can increase light output. While the normal forward current is 25mA, the peak forward current can be increased to 100mA if pulsed.
› Your switches are IP67. Will the LED on 4 and 5 series switches still illuminate if water enters the LED?
Yes, our IP67 tests are performed with demineralized water, which has very low conductivity. This test doesn’t affect the illumination, which uses approximately 20mA and 2–3VDC.
