Explore questions related to actuation force, including custom options and how actuation force impacts switch performance. MEC offers a variety of force options to ensure the perfect tactile response for any project.
› Can MEC build other actuation forces than the standard actuation forces?
We can provide switches with custom force ranging from 2.0N up to 10N.
› Is it possible to have a higher operating force than the normal 3.5N (3 series) and 2.0N (5 series) for a quiet switch?
Yes, it is possible to produce a quiet Multimec switch with an operating force higher than the standard 2.0N. The minimum order quantity for these special switches is typically 20K. Please consult MEC with your request.
› Can I have the switch with 1N actuation force?
If we reduce the operating force too much, there’s a risk that friction, rather than the metal dome, controls the actuation. For this reason, the lowest actuation force we offer is 2N ±0.2N.
› What is the actuator travel distance?
We guarantee contact is established after 1 mm, but due to tolerances in the metal dome alloy, this cannot be specified 100%. In practice, contact is often established before 1 mm.
› Can contact be established before 1 mm travel?
Yes, in practice, contact is established before 1 mm travel, but MEC guarantees contact is fully established at 1 mm.
› What is the tolerance for the 1 mm travel?
The tolerance for the travel distance is 1.1 mm ± 0.1 mm.
› If a mechanical stop is built on the switch, where should the stop be placed?
The mechanical stop should be placed after 1 mm of travel.
